The Siebengebirge, its nature and its past present themselves most impressively to the visitor who takes the cog railway to the top of the Drachenfels. Fun, nature and history are as closely related here as nowhere else.
The cog railway leading to the top of the Drachenfels was put into operation in the summer of 1883. Now, more than 125 years later, the entire complex has been rebuilt. With a fresh outfit and a modernized station, the “Bergbahnen im Siebengebirge AG” have been given a new look to the oldest Zahnradbahn German cog railways, which will continue to be in service in the Rhineland. On its way to the top, it manages an elevation gain of approx. 220 metres with inclines of up to 20 %.
See the splendid Drachenburg („Neuschwanstein on the Rhine“) at the middle station of the Drachenfelsbahn. This neo-gothic chateau was built from 1882 to 1884. It provides deep and interesting insights into the luxurious life at the close of the 19th century.
